Frequently asked questions

Does JPEG compression reduce quality?

JPG is lossy, so each compression removes some detail. At quality 75–85 files get much smaller while the difference is barely visible.

Which quality value should I choose?

Use 75–82 for web and social media, and 88 or higher for print or archiving. The list shows each file's new size before you download.

Is it a problem to compress the same photo repeatedly?

Yes, loss builds up with every re-save. Start from the original file whenever possible and compress once to the quality you need.

Can I compress PNG files as JPG?

Yes. With JPG as the output format, PNG photos are converted and compressed; transparent areas become white. Use WEBP if you need transparency.
