Frequently asked questions

Should I use PNG or JPG?

JPG (or WEBP for smaller files) suits photographs. PNG is best for logos, icons, screenshots and images that need a transparent background.

What happens to transparent areas when converting PNG to JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose in the tool (white by default).

Can I use WEBP files everywhere?

All current browsers support WEBP. Some older apps and print workflows can't open it, though; converting to JPG or PNG is the safest choice there.

Can I convert HEIC (iPhone) photos?

Only some browsers (e.g. Safari) can open HEIC. If yours can, conversion works; if not, setting Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible" on the iPhone saves photos as JPG directly.
