Frequently asked questions
Is the target size exact?
The tool calculates the bitrate from the target size; the result is usually slightly under the target. Very short or very busy videos may deviate a little.
Which setting reduces size the most?
Lowering the resolution is the most effective: taking a 4K or 1080p video down to 720p makes the file several times smaller without a noticeable difference on a phone. Removing audio also helps a little.
Which browsers does it work in?
The tool uses the browser's built-in video encoding (WebCodecs). It works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely on your device; the video is never sent anywhere.
